Locking Folders without any third party software
Consider you want to lock a folder named in your E:\, whose path is E:\.
Now open the Notepad and type the following
ren .{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Where is your folder name. Save the text file as loc.bat in the same drive.
Open another new notepad text file and type the following
ren .{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Save the text file as key.bat in the same drive.
Steps to lock the folder:
To lock the folder, simply click the loc.bat and it will transform into control panel icon which is inaccessible.
To unlock the folder click the key.bat file. Thus the folder will be unlocked and the contents are accessible
PS: This is not worked fine in my system. But My Friend still arguing with me that this trick is working fine for him. So I thought Posting it here will be useful for others. -

Change the Default Location for Installing Programs
XP uses the C:/Program Files directory as the default base directory into which new programs are installed. However, you can change the default installation drive and/or directory by using a Registry hack. Run the
Registry Editor and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion
Look for the value named ProgramFilesDir. By default, the value will be C:/Program Files. Edit the value to any valid drive
or folder; XP will use that new location as the default installation directory for new programs. -

How to Turn Your Num Lock On Forever?
You can set your Num Lock to stay on by default when you logon your system.
There are two different techniques to set Num Lock stay on by default.
If you can use Registry Editor correctly then Click on start button and type Regedt32.exe in Run command. Here Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard and change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.
You can do same by configuring the script to change the NUM LOCK state. Click Start button and then open Notepad. Copy the giving code and paste in Notepad.
set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}"
Now save this file with name "num.vbs" must including the quotes. At the end copy this file to user startup folder. The path for this folder is Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
Now restart the computer. Num Lock should come on and stay on. -

Speed up ur acrobat reader (almost like notepad)
Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.
1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)
2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste).
Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).
Now your acrobat reader will load very fast
and almost as good as notepad..

A quick keyboard shortcut for disabling autorun for the CD/DVD you just put in :
Keep the Shift key pressed*, you will notice the CD/DVD spinning keep the key pressed for 3-4 seconds. The CD/DVD will not autorun.
This is useful if you don't want to disable autorun for all the CDs/DVDs using one of the methods mentioned above.
*If you have the sticky key short-cut enabled then windows will ask you whether you want to enable sticky keys, just press no..or disable this from Control Panel>Accessibility>Sticky Keys -

Calculation on command Prompt !
The command processor CMD.EXE comes with a mini-calculator that can perform simple arithmetic on 32-bit signed integers:
C:\>set /a 2+2
4
C:\>set /a 2*(9/2)
8
C:\>set /a (2*9)/2
9
C:\>set /a "31>>2"
7
Note that we had to quote the shift operator since it would otherwise be misinterpreted as a "redirect stdout and append" operator.
For more information, type set /? at the command prompt.

nice trick to hide files inside a picture:::::
1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (make it in C:\hidden - RECOMMENDED).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. secret.rar). This file should also be in the same directory (C:\hidden).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. logo.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in C:\hidden.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working directory C:\hidden.
5. Now type: “COPY /b logo.jpg + secret.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, logo.jpg is the picture you want to show, secret.rar is the file to be hidden, and output.jpg is the file which contains both. 😁
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive .
please comment -

click start > run > msconfig press enter.
it will provide you configuration settings for your xp.
you can customize the applications and services to start for you and stop unwanted services to start to ease your system.
it will help you speed up your slowed down machine without reinstalling operating system.
if you are using the pirated windows xp just turn off automatic updates by selecting to ask you first and then download the updates for you. it will give you opertunity to maintain your speedy operating system.
Microsoft released xp service pack 2 to get hold of pirated cds. your newly installed operating system works great without updating it. when you select automatic update, it uploads info about pirated os and then your system will download junk updates to mess your system by slowing it down to dead.
just use an anti virus for your online safety.
disable automatic updates
disable windows firewall for you internet connection
try using firefox, opera browser instead of internet explorer to prevent your system -

Windows Xp: 15 Things You Didn't Know...
1. Disable Recycle Bin
You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first. Go to the Start menu, select Run... and type ' gpedit.msc'; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care -- some may stop your computer behaving as you wish. (Professional Edition only).
2. Lock Workstation
You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation' in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same.
3. Show Hidden Installed products in Add/Remove Programs
XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can tickle it and make it disgorge everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word 'hide' and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be your prey, exposed and vulnerable.
4. System Events from DOS
For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include 'eventcreate' and 'eventtriggers' for creating and watching system events, 'typeperf' for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and 'schtasks' for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? will give a list of options -- they're all far too baroque to go into here.
5. IP v6
XP has IP version 6 support -- the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than your ISP has, so you can only experiment with this on your LAN. Type 'ipv6 install' into Run... (it's OK, it won't ruin your existing network setup) and then 'ipv6 /?' at the command line to find out more. If you don't know what IPv6 is, don't worry and don't bother.
6. Kill Tasks from Command Line
You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using 'taskkill /pid' and the task number, or just 'tskill' and the process number. Find that out by typing 'tasklist', which will also tell you a lot about what's going on in your system.
7. Zips or Folders
XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you've got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files well alone by typing 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can put things back as they were by typing 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'.
8. ClearType Technology
XP has ClearType -- M*cro$oft's anti-aliasing font display technology -- but doesn't have it enabled by default. It's well worth trying, especially if you were there for DOS and all those years of staring at a screen have given you the eyes of an astigmatic bat. To enable ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2.
9. Remote Assistance
You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who's using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your chum's real IP address -- they can find this out by going to #-Link-Snipped-# -- and get them to make sure that they've got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant computer.
10. Auto Update Balloon Tips
Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might slip the bonds of sanity before that point, run Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/M*cro$oft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips with a value of 0.
11. Auto Login
You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run... from the start menu and type 'control userpasswords2', which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use.
12. Fast Start Menu
The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 milliseconds to something a little snappier. Like 0.
13. Visual Songs
Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks -- if it found the picture on the Internet when you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn't, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg and Windows Media Player will pick it up and display it.
14. Shortcuts
Windows key + Break brings up the System Properties dialogue box; Windows key + D brings up the desktop; Windows key + Tab moves through the taskbar buttons.
15. Oh!! no Crashes...
It boasts how long it can stay up. Whereas previous versions of Windows were coy about how long they went between boots, XP is positively proud of its stamina. Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from the All Programs start button option, and then type 'systeminfo'. The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad. (Professional Edition only).
Enjoy! -

Adding an Application to the Right Click on Every Folder Here is how to add any application to the Context Menu when you right click on any Folder. This way you do not have to always go to the Start Menu. When you right click on any folder, you can have access to that application, the same as using Sent To.
1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
3. Add a new Key to the "Shell" Key and name it anything you like.
4. Give it a default value that will appear when you right click a folder, i.e. NewKey (use an "&" without the quotes, in front of any character and it will allow you to use the keyboard)
5. Click on the Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\NewKey
6. Add a New Key named Command
7. Set the (Default) value of the application you want to run
8. For example: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (Include the full path and parameters if you need them) -

Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth Here's how to Get it back
This page is contributed bytabcap u can click his name to ask him more or
give the Feedback
Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth Here's how to Get it back
A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)
Here's how to get it back:
Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "
This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth
Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :
"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.
This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. -

Hi friends this is my very first post in this section. This is trick which we used to shutdown all computers when we were not in mood of practicles . Open a new text file and type:
shutdown.exe -s -t 01
and save it with any name with .bat or .cmd extention.
Then copy this folder in startup folder of your windows xp or vista. The operating system will shutdown as soon as it starts. Try it, it is cool trick but you will not be able to start your computer until you re-install it.
We hate piracy. -
@leo-ZJQlmh • Sep 10, 2009
You have installed a software you don't want others to use it but you can not restrict users from using it. Then this trick is for you try this.
First note down what will happen.
1.In your installed program list the programme will appear
2.But its folder in c:\program files will not appear
3.You will access program via command prompt and not via short cut link.
Method:
1.Remove all shortcut links of software.
-From desktop
-From quick lauch
-From start menu
-From start menu-program file
2.Now open a new text file and type complete path of program you want to use. Suppose you are using a software named example. Then type complete file path as
c:\"programes files"\example\example.exe
now save this file with whatever name you want and save with .bat or .cmd extension for example lets consider the file name as leo.cmd
3.Now copy this file in c:\windows\system32\ folder
4.Now press start button->run then type cmd and press enter
command prompt will appear navigate to the folder where your prog is located, and type,
c:\"program files">attrib "folder name in which software exists" +h +r +s
5.Now when you want to use the software type your file name(extention not necessary) in command prompt and you will be able to access the program and others will not be able even figure it out.
We hate piracy. -

Hey guys the trick posted for folder locking does not actually locks folder, it only hides your folder from others at hardware level. The folder is still accessible without any problem to anybody. Let me explain what happens,
-The folder named as locker gets renamed to " [FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}[/FONT]
" this name has to do nothing with locking than fooling a person who don't know how to handle computer via command prompt. You can use any name in place of " [FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}[/FONT]
".
-Then the batch program hides the this folder with attributes +h +s where 'h' denotes hidden and 's' denotes system file. And since batch program operates in command prompt mode it hides folder named " [FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}[/FONT]
" from hardware level.
-You can still access folder. Open cmd then navigate to the folder where you have saved batch file type "attrib" and press "tab" then append it with "-s -h" and press enter your folder will be visible.
OR
Install any third party desktop search software from options enable "show hidden files and folders" now type file name and press enter and all hidden files will be in front of you. Nothing is locked so every thing is 100% visible.
This trick is just for computer lamers not for professional programmers and students of IT and Computer Engineering.

Hi friends if you are using Windows Vista and experiencing slow speed for copying contents, then try this.
Open my computer->then click on "Uninstall or change programs"
there you will find task pane with various options.
select "Turn Windows Feature On or Off"
a window will pop up showing features of windows that can be turned on or off.Now disable "Remote differential compression" and restart your computer. Slowly you will experience increase in copy paste speed. This not actually a trick but i think many people don't know about this.

Shortcut to open Group Policy Window
Just go to Start => Run => (type) gpedit.msc => (hit enter)
This opens the window for Group Policy by which you can change almost all the settings of your OS. All you have to do, is to browse each and every option and check the settings. 😛 😉
Have a fun!! -

Hello friends, this is not a trick. I am going to tell you how to know what average speed you are getting from you internet connection. The speed you notice in properties is not the actual speed its the maximum speed that your link can support.
To know speed right click on task bar and open "task manger" click on "networking" option. Look for the "link speed" this speed is displayed in properties. Look carefully the graph or percent of speed receiving.
For specified duration note the maximum and minimum speed add both and divide by 2. This is your average speed. If minimum speed is nearing zero and maximum above 32Kb. Add minimum speed that is received after zero add to maximum speed and divide by 3. -

Here there is an interesting trick by me
1. Right-click on your desktop, go to "new" and click "Create Shortcut"
2. A window will come up. Where it says "Location" enter: shutdown -s -t
3. The rest of the location is customizable. After the -t, press space and enter the amount of time you want someone to have until shutdown in seconds with only numbers when virus is activated. Press space and enter -c then another space and in quotations, type in a comment that will appear when the computer is shutting down. Click "Next". (example: shutdown -s -t 10 -c "WARNING:A problem with your computer")
4. On the next screen, name your virus whatever you want, it will still have the same effect. Click "OK".
5. Your fake virus will be on your desktop as whatever you named it. Click to activate it. If done correctly a shutdown or log-off window will come up with the amount of time, your comment, and a bunch of other stuff. You can not abort the shutdown with task manager by trying to close the window or delete the processes.
6. TO ABORT THE FAKE VIRUS YOU MUST click the Start button on your taskbar and click run. Then type in: shutdown -a

Hi goyal i don't how you just created the same trick which i have created in while in second year. This might be co-incidence but a power Windows user will not get fooled by this because when i tried the same trick on my seniors they told me windows never prompts any message if it want to shutdown only Unix and Linux prompt messages. By the way if someone gets this type of message just open task manger and look for process wlrmdr.exe, if you find this process then be sure this message is not generated by OS. -

1.You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first.
Go to the Start menu, select Run… and type ‘gpedit.msc’; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move
deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care — some may stop your computer behaving as you wish. (Professional Edition only)
2.You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter ‘rundll32.exe user32.dll',LockWork Station’ in the location field.
Give the shortcut a name you like. That’s it — just double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that’s not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same. -

Google has some fantastic potential for you to find whatever you are after on the internet.
To search for a book/program/file, perhaps try the following.
Go to Googleâs search page and use the following criteria in the search dialog
intitle:index.of? file extension Name of item
e.g. intitle:index.of? chm syngress
This will hopefully give you a listing of all websites that google has cached that contain references to files in CHM format that are published by SYNGRESS.

And you will probably Get the full download of Kaspersky via FTP

Here the way to lock folders by coding, without resorting to any software:
Select the folder you wish to lock. Assume that ‘folder’ is the private folder you want to secure, and its location is drive E:\.
Create 2 ‘.bat’ files in the same drive. Make a new text file in that location. Access that text file via Notepad. Enter the following code:
[ren folder folder.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}] Save this as ‘lock.bat’
Open one more text file and enter this code: [ren folder.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} folder] Save this one as ‘unlock.bat’.
You currently have 2 batch files under the names ‘lock’ and ‘unlock’. Double-click [lock.bat]. The folder icon will turn into that of the Control Panel, and the contents are inaccessible for viewing.
Simply double-click the [unlock.bat] file to revert to the original folder. -

hey sangeeth this is not the right place to post your queriesMani Sangeethmy computer restarts whenever i disconnect the internet connection.can u help me in solving this problem
you can create new thread so that another can see your problem and post the answer
any how
There may be few possibilities a) the Internet connections disconnects because it is not in use -- it is programmed that way -- ask your server b) your Internet program is programmed to disconnect after so many minutes/hours of no usage c) there are places where in your connections where you can identify how long it can stay disconnected...depends on your program d) when you disconnect all (electric connections) then the modem you have re-boot itself...as from new..and you establish a new connection....
hope this might help.... -

If you want to schedule your computer to shut down in X seconds...
1) Go to Start -> Run. Type in 'shutdown -s -t 120' and press Enter.
2) Your computer will shut down in 120 seconds. Change 120 to any number (in seconds) you like 😀
