Read Messages On Contact Lens, Ghent University Brings An Eye Phone!

Still confused about moving to contact lens? Well, now add one more point to the pro's list! Scientists at Ghent University have succeded in embedding a curved LCD in a contact lens which can project images using wireless communication. The new contact lens uses the whole surface to project images unlike the previous versions which used a fraction of the lens surface.
At first, it might look like a science-fiction script, but Professor Herbert De Snet, one of the researcher behind the lens, doesn't agree. According to him, “This will never replace the cinema screen for films. But for specific applications it may be interesting to show images such as road directions or projecting text messages from our smart phone straight to our eye.” He thinks of it as the first step towards the “fully pixelated contact lens displays”. The lens might work as a fully detailed television screen in future. The team was able to project a dollar sign on the lens successfully.

The new lens could be helpful in many areas. It can be developed to be used as adaptable sunglasses. It can be used to control transmission of light on retina according to the intensity of light outside. This is a basic step and it might take some time to go in commercial production, but its surely going to make life a lot more interesting for people who use contact lens!
