Owing to the positive response of Steam’s TV-friendly Big Picture interface, Valve is now working on PC packages for the living room. In an interview to Kotaku at the red carpet for Video Game Awards 2012, Valve Corporation co-founder and managing director Gabe Newell has said that by next year users can expect PC packages that are custom made to work on TV and run are able to run Steam out of the box. With these consoles Valve is trying to unify living room and PC environment. The hardware for this project will be “a very controlled environment”, in simpler terms this will not be open source. Other goals outlined by Valve in the coming days are: Integrating Big Picture on these PC packages, taking Steam Linux out of beta and development of the next generation engine that will work on PC as well as consoles.
