Sharp Achieves World’s Highest "Solar Cell" Conversion Efficiency.

In a latest breakthrough, Sharp Corporation's R&D Initiative declared the achievement of world’s highest solar cell conversion efficiency of 37.7%. By making the use of a triple-junction compound solar cell that works on Sharp's proprietary technology, the research team stacked up three photo-absorption layers neatly. Now,  these compound solar cell's layers are made up of elements like indium and gallium. Sharp kept the InGaAs (indium gallium arsenide) element as the bottom layer. But how did they achieve this new world record of conversion efficiency? Well as Sharp shares - They worked on the ability of the new cell to absorb light from different wavelengths in sunlight and convert it into electricity. Moreover, they  increased the active area*4 to convert light into electricity through optimal processing of the cell edges.

Sharp now looks forward to the application of its latest developments in concentrator photovoltaic power systems and in space satellites or vehicles of the future. Looks like a daunting task. We are so looking forward to more news on this.
