Summly App Launched By 16 Year Old iOS Developer To Summarize Web

A 16 year old iOS developer based in London, England has released a new app, Summly, which uses advanced algorithms to summarize web content into bullet points and keyword listings, which can be shared with others. Nick D’Aloisio, briefs his product as a better substitute for Hyperlinks, as a service to access web contents quickly.

In most search engines,  keyword-based summarization is usually used. But D’Aloisio has implemented an abstract approach rather than "normal".  Summly starts with a special algorithm that extracts text from a web page using HTML processing. The text is then analysed and "genetic" algorithms are applied to  filter condensed portions of article as bullet points.

Summly's final agorithm was derived from a training algorithm which studied human-authored summaries of articles as example models  and emulated its working. When you search for a topic on the app, it amasses results from all the search engines and displays to you, hence, not adhering to a single search engine result. Rather than turning up popular sites like Wikipedia, Summly concentrates on actual news articles and not standard definitions. If you have a specific web page you’d like summarized, then you can directly enter the URL in the app. Well-formulated articles are easier for Summly to summarize because it makes the algorithm smoother to implement.

The tests Summly underwent at MIT, have rated Summly's performance up to 30 percent better than other existing algorithms.
