What is slot and why it is nessary in processing an instruction?

paresh006Well rakesh slot is nothing but a memory space used for storing a function or any such things....it is used for storing the address of a program/function..if slot is not assigned then how can be the operations possible...operations are solely based on slot management and assignment...
