Skype Affected By Malware In India?

It looks like Skype's Indian users are getting targeted by a malware. According to #-Link-Snipped-# the malware sends message to your contact list. "lol, is this your new profile pic? <link>" is the typical format of the message. Upon clicking the link, the malware makes a backdoor entry to your computer and then establishes HTTP connection with its master server. It then captures your user credentials, engages in click fraud activities and even sends itself to contacts in your friends list. TOI says that a government advisory has confirmed the news that this malware is affecting lot of Indian users. We haven't had anyone reporting the attack to us yet.

Indian Government's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) says that the malware opens a backdoor to user's system and takes control of it. We believe this is one of the DORKBOT variants which was earlier detected as #-Link-Snipped-#. The malware is even capable of launching a targeted DDOS attack. Leading Antivirus software maker TrendMicro reported that they blocked over 2.8k associated files in a short span of 24 hours.

Users of Skype are advised to upgrade to the latest version of Skype as soon as possible. Download the software from #-Link-Snipped-# official website and also update their antivirus software to latest virus definitions. It's advised that you shouldn't follow any suspicious sent to you by your friends. If you have been affected, you may ask for help on #-Link-Snipped-#.
