Mazda Demio Powered By Skyactiv-G Engines Launched

Hiroshima based automaker Mazda has recently unveiled its new Gasoline variant to give a tough competition to its rivals like Toyota and Honda. Mazda, facing a heat from its competitors, now a day due to favorable market for hybrids and electric variants has launched its new model Demio. However, Mazda do not have any plans as for now to launch EVs, instead it is focusing on improving the efficiency of its Gasoline cars.

Electric vehicles, though greener, are complicated in design and also they suffer from the problem of charging station facilities, which are currently scarce. Perhaps that is the reason for Mazda’s business decision of its instead going for improving its gasoline performance. The new car is expected to give an outstanding performance of 30 KMPL. Though the performance of Demio as far as mileage is concerned is less than that of Toyota’s Prius which is 38 KMPL.
Mazda’s Demio is powered by Skyactiv-G engines. The engines would be lightweight than most others. Demio will now be powered by its 1.3 liter Skyactiv-G engine which is equipped with a dual sequential valve timing system and employs a six point fuel injection technique. Its compression ratio is kept 14:1. Considering environmental aspects, the carbon emission would be as low as 100 g/km. The engine is now equipped with redesigned pistons which help in achieving the above mentioned features. From the astonishing features of Skyactiv-G engine; it seems that though not a hybrid Demio (Mazda2) would make a significant foot print in global scenario. Currently Mazda is lagging to Toyota and Hyundai which have a sales figure of 8 and 5 million respectively while Mazda could touch only 1.3 million units.
Though, the market is now getting more inclined towards EVs, there is still a huge potential for improvements in conventional gasoline cars. The price of Demio is kept 1.4 million Yen which even after including taxes would be much lower than its rivals. This coupled with its efficient engine is expected to be a selling point of this car. The automaker has started accepting orders for its Demio model since June 9. Customers can now get their dream car at most affordable price ever.
