  • Hi all,
Recently I am selected at Persistent systems ltd. I want to share a Que which I was asked in HR round. It is like:
There are 3 tanks: first is of capacity 3 liters and full of water, second is of capacity 5 liters and full of water, third tank is of infinite capacity and it is empty. Now you need to get 4 liters of water. Remember there is no measurement available. Try to solve guys. I solved it.

    Bbye!!

Simple. First, empty the 3L tank and fill the 3L tank using the 5L. This leaves 2L in the 5L tank.
    Now Empty 3L tank.
Pour the 2L from the 5L tank into the 3L tank. This leaves 1L of spare capacity in the 3L tank.
    Fill the 5L tank again
Fill the 3L tank from the 5L one. This leaves 4L in the 5L tank.😀

Thanks.. There are many similar measurement questions. You may want to try this:

You have a 4 litre and a 9 litre bucket - and you have to get exactly 6 litres of water, with minimum number of transfers.. How do you get it?? 😀

take 9l bucket empty fill it with 4l bucket
now fill 4l bucket half and it becomes 2l pour this in 9l bucket totally 6l

Nope, there are no measurements on the buckets which tell you half or quarter. So you cannot take half of a bucket😀 I'm sure you can get it. Use the same principle used for the first one😀

    1. Firstly fill the 9L bucket.
    2. 9L bucket -> 4l bucket and then empty it
    3. Repeat the step 2 and then transfer the remaining 1L from 9L bucket to 4L bucket.
    4. Now the status is : 9L bucket empty and 4l bucket has 1L.
    5. Now Fill the 9L bucket and transfer 3L from 9 -> 4.
    6. Now the 9L bucket contains 6 litres.

hey first take all the water of both the tanks and pour them in the 3rd tank. then take a bucket and take the water and pour it in to the 2nd tank until the water in the 3rd tank gets half.

hope it could be the answer?😕

her the water in two tanks 5+3=8.if you do the above process we can two half's of 8 Lt so that we can get the required 4 Lts.

    Makru, more questions please 😁
Here is one which got me pondering for hours, but when i got the answer i almost banged my head on the wall..😀

I have 10 bunches of banknotes. Each bunch contains 100 notes, and one of the bunches is entirely of fake notes. Now original notes weigh 1 gram, and fake notes weigh 1.1 grams. You have a weighing scale (capable of weighing upto 1 kg). How can you find out which of the 10 bunches contain the fake notes, by using the weighing scale ONLY ONCE?

At one time, we can weigh about 1000 original notes as the max weight which can be measured is 1kg.
Now, here is the solution :-

Arrange the bags in an order.
Now take 1 note from 1st bag, 2 notes from 2nd bag and so on...10 notes from 10th bag. (Bag or bunch i mean same)
Now weigh it. There are total 55 notes now.
    Now,
    say x=weight measured-55
If (x==0.1) Bag1 is of fake notes
if (x==0.2) Bag2 is of fake notes
If (x==0.3) Bag3 is of fake notes
if (x==0.4) Bag4 is of fake notes
If (x==0.5) Bag5 is of fake notes
if (x==0.6) Bag6 is of fake notes
If (x==0.7) Bag7 is of fake notes
if (x==0.8) Bag8 is of fake notes
If (x==0.9) Bag9 is of fake notes
if (x==1) Bag10 is of fake notes

I hope the solution is clear....
I had already done the similar question earlier...
Thanks Makru for reminding me the concept.

You just have to weigh once. For example if the scale shows 55.1 grams, we can understand it is the first bunch. If the scale shows 55.2 grams, it is the second bunch which has the fake notes, and so on. Hope the concept is clear..

It need not be a digital weighing scale😀 The question says it weighs upto 1 kg only. So even if it is a normal weighing scale, you can easily find out the 0.1 marks

Just measure the weight using device and subtract 55 from it manually.
