    the recombination of holes and junctions form an inpermeable layer of immobile ions in the junction thus if an hole has to move from the P region to the N region it must pass through a "WALL OF POSITIVE IONS IN THE JUNCTION"

    THIS WALL ACCOUNTS TO THE FORMATION OF POTENTIAL BARRIER
