Ford EcoBoost Three Cylinder 1.0 Liter Engine

Ford is planning to launch the smallest engine ever produced by the company in all their small cars. Named 'EcoBoost', the three cylinder 1 liter engine will be launched globally in coming days in all Ford's small cars. Ecoboost features latest Ford technologies like turbocharging, twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) & direct injection. The new engine first made a debut last year at the Beijing Auto Show 2010 and recently demoed at Geneva Motor Show 2011.

EcoBoost, as you can guess from the name, offers improved fuel economy and engine efficiency. Ecoboost has two-layer cooling system which enables the cylinder block to warm up before the head. The assembly also offers reduction of temperature of the exhaust gas. The engine was designed by Dunton Technical Centre in United Kingdom. The focus of engineers working on the project was to improve the overall efficiency of the engine while reducing the friction. The engines typically emit more pollutants at the time of warm-up. The engine specific technical details have not yet been released by Ford, but the engine is expected to perform at par with 1.6-liter petrol engines.
