Qatar is raising expectations of the entire world with the slogan 'expect amazing' for the 2022 FIFA world cup. Qatar plans to renovate three existing stadiums and build 9 new stadiums for this tournament.

#-Link-Snipped-#German architects AS&P have come up with architectural designs that include retractable roofs and solar power for cooling systems the stadiums as well as modular designs that allow some parts of the stadiums to be dismantled once the event is over.

In this series of post I’ll be discussing about seven of the proposed stadiums. Each of these seven stadiums boasts of a unique feature and is each inspired by a specific element of the Qatari culture and it represents their country to the entire world and is symbol of relationship Qatar shares with the rest of the nations.

AL RAYYAN STADIUM -

This is an existing stadium which will be modernized to showcase football inside and outside the stadium. The plan here is to erect a media membrane like structure around the stadium to display the news, match updates and tournament information. This stadium is situated around 20 km northwest of the capital, Doha. The stadium capacity will be 44,740 after adding the modular seats to the upper tier to double the current capacity of 21282. The unique feature that this stadium boasts of is the 420,000 sq ft media façade.

AL GHARAFA STADIUM-

This is also an existing stadium which was built in 2003 and the seating capacity is to be doubled to 44740 after adding the modular upper tier stand. The lower tier is the existing permanent one. This upper tier will be removed and the stadium will be downsized after the tournament has ended. The façade is to be transformed into a colorful display of ribbon like elements of different colors each signifying a competing country woven together to symbolize ‘friendship, mutual tolerance and respect of the FIFA World Cup and Qatar’.
