What's New In iOS 5?

At WWDC 2011, Apple's Scott Forstall talked about what's new in Apple iOS 5 update. Apple calls it the most advanced iOS till date. iOS is one of the most selling operating systems and the stats confirm it. Apple announced that they have sold over 200 million iOS powered devices all over the world and about 25 million among them are iPads. The App Store delivered 14 billion downloads till date and the app developers were $2.5 billion together. Here's a quick overview of the new features in iOS 5 -

- New Overhauled Notifications System: Many iOS users were desperately waiting for an overhaul in the iOS notifications sytem. iOS 5 offers it by aggregating all notifications in a drawer in the top area. You can access all your notifications by sliding the drawer and if you don't take any action, it stays in top notifications bar. NewsStand: All your favorite magazine and newspaper subscriptions will be available at a center place called newsstand.

- Deeper Twitter Integration: iOS 5 offers deep twitter integration - one of the most desired feature by users. Now you can use your twitter login credentials to access apps & download them. You will be able to tweet images directly from the gallery.

- Safari Browser Update: The popular Safari browser now offers a button next to the address bar to eliminate all the unnecessary stuff from the web page and present you with what matters to most - text. Safari will also offer tabbed browsing - a boon for the iPad users.

- Location aware reminder service: Reminders is not an entirely new service, but iOS 5 reminder service is location aware. So if you are passing by your bank, it will remind you of those important transaction where were about to forget.

- Camera button on lockscreen: You will no longer have to unlock your iOS device to use the camera app. Plus the volume-up button will double as 'shutter' operate button. The app will also have additional image editing options like red-eye reduction, cropping and image rotation.

- Split Keyboard: Especially useful in iPad so that you can type with both thumbs while holding the ipad.

- iOS updates over the air: You won't have to connect you iOS device to computer in order to update the firmware. The new iOS 5 will offer updates without needing any cables.

- iMessage: Apple iMessage is a clear Blackberry Messenger rival with added features like delivery and read receipts.

In addition, iOS 5 will offer iCloud integration. iOS 5 will be made available on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.
