Apart from tracking your face, the brains behind Disney Research wants to shave and clone it too. Systems have been created using which the researchers have managed to digitally recreate and remove facial hair from lifelike dummies of human faces to be employed in animatronics. The modern face-capture approach is not quite tip-top for the removal of facial hair, and this issue was attended to by the Disney researchers via an algorithm that makes out facial hair, recreates it in 3D and puts the gathered information to realize the shape underneath it. And this algorithm can be even employed for individual hairs, meaning you can view the final structure with or without the clean shave.

Another team is interested in the more tangible recreations of the human face, particularly for their usage on audio-animatronic robots. The team working on the 'Physical Face Cloning' project has plans to automate the animatronics to accelerate the human face replication of future robots. This shall have the face being captured in various conditions and the generated data shall be used to create the most original-looking synthetic skin.
