#-Link-Snipped-#, Kaspersky Lab has detected a new virus named 'Gauss' that can keep track of banking transactions and steal login ID and passwords. To detect the presence of this virus, two security organizations have revealed an online tool which allows Windows users to check for the virus in their systems. The detection strategy is based on the presence of a font called 'Palida Narrow', which is added by the virus to all the affected machines. Palida narrow is currently identified only as the way to detect the virus, and there's no clue about the benefits that Gauss gets from the font.

The technique was first introduced by Laboratory of Cryptography and System Security (CrySys), where the detection tools searches for the 'Palida Narrow' font, whose presence indicates that the system is infected by Gauss Virus. A similar approach was later revealed by Kaspersky lab with a difference of what is called as an 'IFRAME'.  An IFRAME simplifies the procedure by using JavaScript to look for the font. In case you suspect your computer to be a slave of the virus, you can check out the online testing tool by #-Link-Snipped-# or #-Link-Snipped-#.
