Microsoft unveiled Bing’s latest interface redesign on Thursday, highlighting the social integration feature which includes search results from popular networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter, giving it a social edge over Google’s unparalleled search engine.

Bing’s new interface divides the screen into three panes, based on the kind of information it provides. The social feature is compiled to the right sidebar which highlights a user’s list of contacts and their activities related to the typed query. One can also post a question to these contacts, enabling them to respond via Bing or their respective social networks. The main focus however is still on the efficient algorithmic search which directs users to websites containing answers to their queries. The ‘snapshot’ feature will be limited to generate commercial data from a site helping users to draw contextual conclusions.

Unlike Google, which has brought in social perspective to search with ‘Google Search Plus Your World’, Bing reaps in on the already established social networks with LinkedIn, Quora and Foursquare set join the proposed social search revolution lead by Microsoft. The updated Bing search engine will be rolled out for public beta test soon and is expected to build-on its social database and ‘snapshot’ feature, as user engagement on social networks is increasing drastically.

Experts see this move from Microsoft to be the company’s biggest chance to make a shift in search statistics since its launch in 2009, as the default Google+ social integration on Google search is struggling to actively engage users.
