Diaspora, The Facebook & Google+ Rival (?) To Launch This Year

Those waiting to be rescued from Zuckerberg's citadel & its privacy policies may have something to look forward to this year. #-Link-Snipped-#, the social network with the 'privacy settings done right' aims to be available later this year, according to #-Link-Snipped-#. The startup has revealed its plans to join the Y-Combinator program which has prestigious alumni like the #-Link-Snipped-# and Scribd. Obviously, #-Link-Snipped-# developers claim that they aren't creating another #-Link-Snipped-# clone; but want to offer more creative control over the data to users. The Diaspora USP lies in letting users control their data but the upcoming social network will also offer #-Link-Snipped-# inspired photo-uploading, text, video sharing etc. with facility to tweak the look and feel of the content to suit various moods.

But creating a killer alternative to Facebook (rival #1) is no easy job. #-Link-Snipped-# tried it and is yet to catch up with Facebook's nearly billion active users. We are ready to wait for the Diaspora to launch and offer a real alternative to current giants. In the mean time, do let us know whether you'll join Diaspora once it comes out of its shell?
