100 Year Starship To Make Human Travel Between Stars Possible By 2112!

After the epic #-Link-Snipped-#, here is some news that will be of interest to you, if you are the one who believes, "Solar System is not the limit." No, this project is in no way similar to the #-Link-Snipped-# program. For those of us who wish to explore space beyond what is conceivable today, the 100 Year Starship (100YSS) is like a dream come true. Mae Jemison, M.D., the world's first woman astronaut of color to travel in space (1992’s Space Shuttle Endeavour) has taken up the leadership to build an organisation that focuses on making human travel between distant stars possible within the next 100 years. In her own words, "100YSS will embark on a journey across time and space. . . If my language is dramatic, it is because this project is monumental.  And our team is both invigorated and sobered by the confidence DARPA has in us to make interstellar flight a reality."

The Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence has been selected by DARPA to receive funding for the 100YSS program. This program will strive to build the national and global initiatives for identifying and pushing the radical leaps in knowledge and technology needed to achieve interstellar flight. We are excited know that a  public symposium is planned for September in Houston, where engineers, philosophers or just about anyone interested will be called to present papers and host talks about the challenges of such a project.

This program also has got a scientific research partner called 'The Way' to will focus on speculative, long-term science and technology. Well, you and I may or may not be alive when the dream materializes, but as they say we will be watching out for this from wherever we are, be it somewhere between the stars.
