Yahoo's Axis App Is A New Web Browser For Desktop, iPad And iPhone

Yahoo has launched its new #-Link-Snipped-# web browser for iPad and iPhone as an app. For desktop, it is available as an add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE. Same as Google Instant, the new search process in the browser comes up with suggestions but with a difference. As we go on entering our query, the browser brings up thumbnail images of most related web pages, offering an option to directly go to the website or keep on searching for other results.

The search would use Yahoo's search engine on both the desktop and iPad & iPhone versions but will not display any ads as of now. Once Axis turns out to be popular among users, ads would be inserted among displayed results. It's a desperate effort form Yahoo to drive traffic for its search revenues as they have been sliding wayward for some years now.

Apple executives have confirmed favouring Axis for the iDevices. Axis for Android is under development and is expected soon but it is difficult to say whether Google would allow its use in the OS as it already has the Android browser and Chrome for Android is in its beta version. It's a refreshing concept from Yahoo and would be interesting to see how it would be received by users.
