Better late than never, Skype web version (#-Link-Snipped-#) is now available to users globally. Currently in public beta mode, the Skype for web was announced back in Skype Arrives On Browsers In Beta Form. Since then, Skype was rolled out slowly to the users in the US and UK. However, Skype's Jonathan Watson announced through official #-Link-Snipped-# that Skype Web is now accessible from anywhere in the world.

Watson also informed that The Skype Web is also available to the Chromebook and Linux users. The software currently supports all the major languages around the world including Spanish, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Chinese Simplified and Traditional as well.

    Skype-Web-login

Accessing Skype for web is easy. Simply point your web browser to #-Link-Snipped-#. You will be presented with a login screen. Users may choose to create a new account or use their existing Skype credentials to login. Skype's also allowing 'Sign-in with Facebook' option so that you will be automatically signed in to Skype when you are logged in to Facebook.

Skype will then present you with your familiar interface with two column layout; with contacts displayed on the left and your chat session on the right. Note that Skype for Web currently supports all the modern browsers viz. IE10, Chrome, Firefox and Safari 6+ on OSX. Note that audio and video calls are not supported on Chrome browser on Mac. Skype recommends using Safari browser if you want to use those features.

The Skype for Web currently supports 1:1 instant messaging along with free audio / video calls. Other advance features like screen sharing and group chats are not supported at present.

If you are a Skype user, do give the new Skype a try. Share your experience with us below.

Update: Tried sending a file through Skype Web, and it does not allow you to drop files directly into the chat to share it - like you do on the desktop version.
