Touch Developer Preview of Ubuntu For Smartphones Gets A Release Date

After Canonical launched #-Link-Snipped-#, the company announced that they will be releasing a compatible build of the OS for Nexus devices, as per their promise they will be publishing the images and open source code of the Touch Developers preview for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 on 21st February 2013. Canonical hopes this release will help enthusiasts and developers to familiarise with the upcoming OS so that they can build applications for other handsets. A flashing tool will be provided on the same day so that developers can update their devices with latest versions of Ubuntu for smartphones.

Canonical team members will personally help visitors at the Mobile World Congress get their phones flashed to this new OS. Canonical has already published a Preview SDK and App Design Guidelines for developers to start developing applications. With this release Canonical hopes to achieve a true convergence where the same Ubuntu code will help to deliver mobile, tablet, desktop or TV experiences depending on the device it is installed on. The press release also states that Ubuntu 13.10 which is scheduled for release in October will include a complete entry level smartphone experience.
