Thunderbolt 3 Specs and Features : Basically USB-C On Steroids
Intel has announced Thunderbolt 3 - the fastest and the most flexible and versatile connection for your peripherals. I've been following the Thunderbolt technology through various discussions on CrazyEngineers about #-Link-Snipped-#. The capabilities of the new thunderbolt 3 are eye-blinding. Intel's official press release hints at it can drive two 4K displays and is reversible as well.
Thunderbolt can deliver data transfers as fast as 40 Gbps; almost double the speed of USB 3.1 Will Do 10 Gbps But Intel's Thunderbolt 2 Will Rule With 20 Gbps. Note that in contrast, USB 3.1 offers 10Gbps. Intel says that for the first time, there's one port that will connect to thunderbolt devices, displays and also USB devices as well. The thunderbolt mode will allow a single cable to carry 4X the data and 2x the video bandwidth compared to any existing cable.
Just to put the things in right perspective, the new thunderbolt 3 cable will be able to transfer a 4K movie in less than 30 seconds. The new port will also be able to charge a notebook up to 100W. Here's a quick overview of the most important features:
