Self Balancing Unicycle Version 2.0 By Focus Designs
In spite of knowing the fact that unicycles are very hard to ride; they are highly popular throughout the world. The average time required to master the art of unicycling has been dramatically reduced from several weeks to about 20 minutes, making this cycle a cool, cheap-to-maintain personal transport machine. Most of the people learn biking in no time but unicycles contradict this process. There is a lot of chance that the unicycle may move either in forward or backward direction when pedaled as the wheel just rotates about a single axis and human has absolutely no control on it. However all-time unicyclists manage to control the direction by pedaling and adjusting the wheels.

The cool machine is equipped with high performance gyro sensors that maintain the stability of the cycle once it comes into move. Seven gyro sensors, accelerometers constantly monitor the orientation of the cycle through a processor connected to it which runs a bundle of algorithms. A hub-mounted high torque motor speeds up or down to maintain the axial balance. You need to lean forward to accelerate and backward to apply the brake which is similar to that of Segway, another Self Balancing Unicycle. Check out the video below to know how it works.
Unlike the Segway, this cycle is very less prone to accident as you can quickly put your feet down to quick stop the cycle. The 1000 watts motor is powered by lithium-ion nano-phosphate battery that helps to achieve a top speed of about 10 mph for a distance of 12 miles. Estimated average cost of recharge is 2 US cents which generally takes two hours for a full charge. The cycle weighs 29 lbs which makes it friendly to carry. The latest version 2.0 of the SBU is out and available from Focus Designs for $1,499.
