Roku Streaming Stick - Roku Box Shrinks To Thumb Size Device!

Digital Media Products company Roku announced a Streaming Stick which will put the whole Roku Box in your palm. The Stick looks like a USB flash drive and provides access to hundreds of channels offered by the company.

The stick is self powered, means you don’t need a cable or any other type of power source to charge it. You can plug it into a HDMI port and enjoy all the services. It doesn’t even need a separate remote to operate, you can navigate through Roku software using standard TV remote. It has almost all functionality of a typical box such as integrated WiFi connectivity and flash storage.

Everything looks good, but there is a catch! Stick supports only Mobile High Definition Link(MHL) spec of HDMI, which is relatively new and not available on all present HDTVs. MHL allows user to access company’s software using standard HDTV remote. In fact, currently MHL is supported only by few Toshiba and Samsung HDTVs. But that may not be an issue to worry, as with CES happening next week, we might see some more HDTVs supporting MHL. The price of stick is not announced till now, but it is expected to be somewhere between $50 and $100.
