PS4 Hardware Upgrade - What To Expect?
The playstation and xbox will receive a major hardware upgrade this year. According to Forbes, these leading gaming consoles will get a new chip capable of decoding HEVC 4K UHD streaming format. It's also expected that the chipset will be able to handle HDCP 2.2 copy protection protocol. This protocol is required by several 4K video sources for playback. For 4K video support it's quite likely that the HDMI ports will get an upgrade too; from the current 1.4 to 2.0 to handle 4K videos at 60fps.
The HDMI port upgrade is likely to involve major cost changes and it's not clear if Sony and Microsoft can keep the price cautious consumers happy. If the new hardware does not lead to major changes in price - the PS4 will actually become the future-ready console. What say you?
