In my opinion because they both require completely different skillsets. The political arena requires skills in debate, oratory, negotiation, political science and knowledge of the nation's governmental systems and processes. -

Politics is different from Engineering. It is possible that a engineer may be good at politics and interested it in. But to do any work we must be good at its basic knowledge. As Gohm has mention some things that are necessary to be a good politician.
