Nvidia Tegra 2 Budget Smartphones Being Planned
All the recent hype has been around Nvidia's flagship quad-core processor, Tegra 3 making its way into the latest generation smartphones and tablets. But to extend its market reach, Nvidia wants to have a share in the budget phones segment too and they are expected to come up with $160 phones.

At a recent event Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang explained that the new budget phones would have their previous generation dual-core Tegra 2 processors along with cheaper 3G modems to reduce the price of handsets. This would definitely bring low priced phones to people who avoid spending more or have a tight budget and prefer to have a smartphone.
Nvidia's plans of getting into this market seems to be a wise decision as we have seen low end Android phones take a descent market share and we also have Microsoft coming up with their Tango devices aimed at emerging markets. This could definitely spell boom for Nokia and Microsoft as their plans match with Nvidia's ideas and we would not be more surprised to see the merger after this announcement.
Using Tegra 2 chip would be a better choice over the Snapdragon processors. The Snapdragon based phones are currently available for $0 on contract, however the new Tegra 2 phones would be available for $160 which is quite less than current price of low end phones.
