NFC Xperia SmartTags Will Change The Way Settings Are Applied On Mobile

Xperia SmartTags have arrived finally to eliminate the trouble of changing the settings on the mobile phone while entering a particular location. These small keychain-sized tags are built up of programmable NFC chips which are capable of doing variety of tasks like switching the phone off with a single swipe. Sony expects to release these SmartTags in the second quarter of the year and it’s cost would be around $30 for four tokens in a set. These tags would only be working with NFC-equipped smartphones which are not available in quantity at present but CES displayed some new NFC devices indicating that 2012 is a year when NFC chips would be produced in plenty.

NFC SmartTags

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a communication technology which uses RFID (radio-frequency identification) standards to communicate between two devices simply by making them touch or moving them close to each other. It’s range is only of a few centimeters thus making it more secured than Wi-Fi networks which are prone to various cyber-attacks. Giant corporations like Google are now seeing NFC technology as the end of the traditional wallets because soon credit cards and other payment techniques would be available in the mobile devices. However Sony’s SmartTags are utilizing the NFC technology in a bit different way where the customers would think of this convenience as a waste of money. Automated tasks can save a lot of time and are not new in the Android World but the ease of use and the key-chain sized chip which adds to the style factor could make these SmartTags a hit in the near future.
