Happy World IPv6 Day - June 8, 2011!

You can figure out that this number has limitations of roughly about 4 billion addresses. With the explosion of Internet, we’re running out of total number of addresses. In short, the Internet is now close to being ‘full’. The solution is IPv6.

IPv6 is “Internet Protocol Version 6?. The major difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the difference of bits. IPv6 uses 128 bits while IPv4 uses only 32. A typical IPv6 address will look like:<tt> </tt>2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334<tt>.</tt> That is the IPv6 system is capable of 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses. Switching to IPv6 is the long term solution however it needs lot of infrastructure upgrades from the network providers and we do not have enough time to do that.

Once we run out of IPv4 web addresses, the long term solution is going to be IPv6 - which will offer more than 4 billion times more space.
