Google's Tilt Brush - Redefining Both Virtual Reality And 3D Art
Virtual Reality has been making raves in the minds of common public ever since Google Cardboard was launched and people were mesmerised by the virtual environment they witnessed through it. The experience of observing what other people have created, watching media files on big virtual screens and falling on the ground while trying to walk in the virtual environment was surprisingly mind boggling. Google has now taken the VR to a new level by introducing 'Google Tilt Brush' which allows the user to not only observe but also create 3D paintings. This tool also redefines the digital art platform as unlike conventional 2D methods, like using digital pens to draw on a screen, the Tilt Brush lets the creator merge with the artwork to better visualize and create it.
Digital artists are aware of the long & time consuming sessions needed for creating 3D digital art on a 2D display using different tools and having to switch between top view/front view/side view. Having Tilt Brush would make a great difference by enabling the creator to convert their room into a canvas being able to walk freely into the 3D space and visualize the art whilst creating it.
The Tilt Brush requires the user to have #-Link-Snipped-# (which includes the HeadMount and Controller) connected to your computer. The software is available for download through Tilt Brush on Steam for $29.99 (USD) and currently supports Windows 7 and above operating system. It also requires an on-board 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or better Dedicated Graphics Card.
The Dynamic Brushes give the user various options to use like ink, snow, paint, smoke, fire and much more. The user can select from various background colours to different widths of the brush from the virtual pallet. The application has been designed both for professional artists/designers and for general doodlers as well. Googleâs Tilt Brush has truly set new standards for virtual reality being termed as âThe first great VR appâ and âVRâs killer appâ by critics.
Although the overall cost to setup Tilt Brush falls around $830 USD ( HTV Vive $799 + Tilt Brush $29.99) the experience of walking into a painting is worth it.
