Google Chromecast has finally arrived in India with a price tag of Rs. 2999. After about a year and half since its launch in the United States, Google's finally decided that it's ready to take on the Indian markets. The uninitiated may note that Google Chromecast is a tiny, pen-drive like device that fits into the HDMI port of your TV and then lets you connect your gadgets like Android phone, tablet, iOS (Apple) devices, iMac, Windows laptops and even Chromebooks directly to your TV.

Chromecast comes with a plethora of dedicated applications viz. YouTube, Google Play, Google Plus and lot more. The Chromecast will let you play videos, control volume, create playlist directly from your mobile phone. It also lets you have pretty wallpapers for your big-screen television. The device derives power from the USB port of your TV; so make sure that your TV has both in order to be able to use it.

The Chromecast is available for purchase through Google Play store and also through Snapdeal as google's GOSF (shopping festival) concludes. One important thing to note is that Google Chromecast will NOT stream your local content to TV - in order to prevent the copyright infringement issue - something that Apple TV does just fine.

If you buy a Chromecast, do share your reviews of the device with us!

There are some chrome extensions out there such as "Videostream" that allows to stream your local content to the TV.
