GoDaddy In Troubled Waters For Briefly Supporting SOPA!

Customers were angry with the domain king GoDaddy over its support towards the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). 29 December is all set to witness a lot of customers moving away and moving their sites from GoDaddy to other potential rivals. The boycott made GoDaddy consider their support for SOPA, but many users had already left by then, while others still stick to their decision of shifting.#-Link-Snipped-#
SOPA's fate remains undecided; the US Congress shall be attending to it soon. This act allows movie studios and record labels get court orders to deactivate sites if they are found aiding/doing piracy. This act may cause thousands of shut-downs and the web as we know it may never be retracted. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, eBay and many similar big names have opined against SOPA. GoDaddy comprised the minority supporting SOPA, for which it's paying the price. Owing to a lot of pressure from a lot of customers, it has removed its name from the list. The ones to have already shifted their domains from GoDaddy include- Cheezburger Network, Lolcats, Imgur. Wikipedia is believed to follow shortly.

In quite a short period of time, over 37,000 domains were transferred to other hosting firms. To prevent the exodus, GoDaddy came up with various deals on domain registration. GoDaddy's rivals didn't miss out a chance to make money- from getting the other sites on their own hosting firms.
