let population now be 100
after one year, population is 108 (4% + 4%)
after 2 years, population is (.08*108)+108 = 117 (0 d.p.)
increase in population = 117 - 100 = 17
% increase = (17/100) * 100 = 17%
this is my guess. hope someone can check it. -

The population of a city increases @ 4% p.a. There is an additional annual increase of 4% of the population due to the influx of job seekers, find the % increase in population after 2 years ?
let population now be 100
as given population increased 4% p.a.
therefore population will be 104 after one year
and also given additional increment in population due to job seekers is 4%
therefore population will be =104+104X0.04
=104+4.16
=108.16
after one year, population is 108 (4% + 4%)
after 2 years, population is (.04*108.16)+108.16 = 112.4864
due to job seekers population will be after two years=116.986256
increase in population = 116.986256 - 100 = 16.986256
% increase = (16.986256/100) * 100 = 116.986256%
