DirectX 11.1 Is Married To Windows 8.

Microsoft has declared that DirectX 11.1 is Windows 8 only and they aren't supporting other Windows flavors, including Windows 7. So, if you are PC gamer with your own valid reasons of not upgrading to Windows 8; be aware of what you'll be missing. In one of the discussions on MSDN forums, Microsoft official Daniel Moth has stated that DirectX 11.1 is meant for Windows 8 only for all practical purposes. Of course it will support Windows RT and Windows Server 2012.

But don't worry. There's not much you are going to lose in the shorter run, except for the 3D glasses support. However in the longer run, Microsoft says that it's not possible to upgrade the media support without upgrading the operating system. The real trouble will arise when the games will have DirectX 11.1 as the base.

If your computer hardware supports Windows 8, we'd advise you to give up some of your Windows 7 love and adapt Win8. Microsoft has invested heavily in it and is betting big on this new platform. Plus, the upgrade is dirt cheap until January 31, 2013 so you can't have excuses for not upgrading.
