Design and fabrication of a Computer To Plate Lithographic printing waste Neutralizer
Project Abstract / Summary : This paper presents with the development of a system for the neutralization and disposal of the Computer To Plate (CTP) printing wastes which at present are released into the open by the offset printers. These wastes are highly basic in nature so when released into the open it may spoil the land, or pollute the water sources and increase the Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) & Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD) values and prove fatal. So,we propose to reduce the pH values of the wastes before their removal and reduce the COD & BOD level to release a non-polluting and environment friendly waste. We intend to construct a complete setup to do so and include various features to do the neutralizing and waste removal using a mixing chamber, neutralizing fluid, sieves, micron filters etc.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Currently,Sivakasi known as the printing hub in Tamil nadu has many printing industries which make use of CTP plates used for printing. After cleaning these plates a highly basic(alkaline) waste is released. At present these wastes are released in the open lands. This activity will not only render the lands infertile but it will affect the underground water table, in return all biological environment will be affected. So we thought we could do something to protect our farming land from such hazardous wastes.
