Cooking Simulator From Tokyo Institute Of Technology Cooks Your Food Just Perfect

Researchers at Tokyo Institute of Technology have designed a cooking simulator which combines two technologies-  a rigid-body physics engine library and a heat conduction simulator. The lower half of the simulator is used for cooking (includes a force feedback frying pan and spatula) and the upper half includes a screen to view the food being cooked. The simulator calculates the heat transfer from pan to food and the moisture evaporated with changes in cooking temperature. The fry pan interface allows for three dimensional input and ability to move the pan enhances cooking procedure.

The pan, the spatula and all the changes within the food (which include changes such as colour transformation of protein from red to brown while cooking)  can be viewed through the half mirrored upper portion of the simulator. The main aim of the researchers is to build a technology that is capable of showing changes within the food being cooked at different intervals, and allows the user to select most appropriate food condition; for instance it should display the food as it would look after 5 minutes and 10 minutes, and ask the user for preferable cooking time.
