Rumors were being heard since the beginning of this month regarding a new PMP from Samsung. These rumors have now been confirmed by the Korean manufacturer by means of a press release, which is a Personal Media Player (PMP) is named as GALAXY Player 5.8. The 5.8 in the product name signifies the huge 5.8 inch TFT LCD display with 540*960 pixels at 190 ppi. The device runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on an unknown processor. The PMP features 1GB RAM and internal memory of either 16 or 32 GB. The external memory can be expanded up to 32 GB by using the microSD card.

The device measures 6.5" (l) x 3.4" (w) x 0.4" (10.8 mm) (d) and weighs 221 grams. One of the important features of this PMP is that it has included software called Learning Hub, which seems to be similar to the educational app included in Micromax Funbook tablets. The difference being this one takes the curriculum of Korean students in mind and provides study material catered to their needs. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, A-GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. The player is expected to be showcased by the company at IFA 2012. Pricing and availability is currently unknown.
