Computer that runs on light

hi friends,

Today i was studying about the transistors and logic gates then ,suddenly it strikes to my mind that can we have a computer that runs on light?
As we all know that in computer multiple transistor are used to form different gates and that collection of gates are used for controlling the flow of current.
And we also know that nothing go faster than the speed of light so, can we have a transistor like device which control the flow of light?

If any one having some ideas on this please share with us.
