Priced identically to the recently introduced Xiaomi Redmi 1S smartphone, the folks at ASUS have started taking pre-orders for the Asus Zenfone 4 (A450CG model) via Flipkart. The Asus Zenfone series of phones were quite the talk of the town when they were first launched. The Dual SIM (GSM + WCDMA) bar phone is powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2520 Dual-Core Processor with Intel's hyper threading technology. The 4.5 inch screen features a FWVGA, 854 x 480 Pixels resolution and a 10-finder multi-touch panel display, well protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Packed inside the device is 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory which is expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card. Now, let us take a look at the tech specs sheet in detail to know more about the new phone.

Running on Android v4.4 OS, the Zenfone 4 features the ZenUI. There's a 8 megapixel camera on the rear and a 0.3 megapixel one on the front. The camera support auto-focus. A 1750 mAh Lithium battery offers 13 hours of talk time on 3G. For the user's connectivity needs, there's GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSPA+, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, USB, A-GPS, GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.0 version.

That's all about the phone's specifications and highlighted features. Let us now take a look at the features on this one compared to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, to help you decide if at a price of Rs. 6,999 which phone offers more value for money.

Well, we found that the Xiaomi Redmi 1S was an unbeaten winner when compared with the Asus Zenfone 4. Here's the breakdown. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S has -

1. A larger screen (4.5 inch vs 4.7 inch)
2. A faster processor (1200 MHz Dual core vs 1600 MHz Quad core)
3. A higher battery capacity (1750 mAH vs 2000 mAH)
4. A sharper screen (217 ppi vs 312 ppi)
5. A higher front camera resolution (0.3 MP vs 1.6 MP)
6. Is much thinner (11.3 mm vs 9.9 mm)

So, that's our wrap up on these phones for today. If you want to pre-order the Zenfone 4 A450CG smartphone, you can head over to Flipkart and book one soon.
@View From The Top • 25 Aug, 2014 The almost simultaneous availability of the ZenFone 4.5 and the Redmi 1S at the EXACT same price after such a long waiting period since their announcement, is great news for people with a 5-10K budget, but it's sure to confuse the mess out of most buyers in the segment.

Do you go with the more established brands in Asus/Motorola or just go with Xiaomi and get the best possible hardware money can buy for under 10K? If you decide on the later, there's the question of availability just like the Mi3, as Xiaomi is likely to continue on with the flash sale strategy that's served them so well all across Asia, and created so much free publicity for them.

On the other hand, if you decide to go with an established brand name and sacrifice a bit on specs, you're left to decide between the higher spec'ed x86 device (incompatible with games like Modern Combat 3 etc. AFAIK) or the lower spec'ed ARM one, which will be compatible with pretty much everything, but will be significantly under-performing the ZF 4.5 not just in synthetic benchmarks but also real world apps, multitasking, rendering, encoding, decoding, gaming, etc. not to mention the pitiful rear camera without variable focus, smaller aperture (f/4.0 vs f/2.0 in the ZF 4.5), unavailability of HD recording, and a complete lack of video calling options on account of the missing webcam.

Don't know about the country at large, but at least in the world of budget mobile phones, without a trace of doubt "achhe din aanewale hai" LMFAO!

P.S. - @Ankita Katdare - The entire Zenfone series does have FM radios by all accounts. The A450CG a.k.a. ZenFone 4.5 also has a rear LED flash unlike the smaller A400CG. So neither are distinguishing factors between the two aforementioned devices. Please do check the GSMArena spec sheet and the Flipkart product page. Just a heads up. 👍
