  • Google's 'Android Auto', the droid for your car, has launched in Australia. Android Auto is your car infotainment system that syncs with your android phone to keep you informed and connected while you are behind the wheels. Electronics manufacturer Pioneer has began selling two 7" models that run Android Auto for $1149 and $1999. You'll need a phone updated with latest Android 5 Lollipop to connect with the Auto system. If you are unsure about what version your phone's running head over to settings-> about phone -> software information to check your current firmware version.

The Android Auto system offers everything you'd expect from it, right out of the box. For example, it's got a GPS navigation integrated, it can send and receive SMS, answer and dial phone calls and also stream your favorite music track directly from Google Play. Google however says that with Android Auto, the users are bound to get a much better experience compared to standard phone. For example, if you have an upcoming event, the Auto will notify you about it and even offer to navigate you to the destination. Google's engineers have made it super easy to operate Google Maps using the physical buttons and touch-screen on the Android Auto system.

The Android Auto system stays synced with your phone. So even if you've set a reminder while you were driving your car, the system will remember it and have your phone notify it if you are not in your car. By the way, setting reminders while driving the car is super easy. All you need to do is command Google Now with simple voice instructions. Google Australia's senior production manager, Andrew Foster said that the Auto system has been under development for about two years. So far, over 40 car makers and electronic component makers have signed up to launch Google's Android Auto system.
