Akash Missile TestFired In India With Success Making Air Defense Shield Stronger

Akash Missile was today test-fired successfully from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Orissa in India by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). Though, this user-specific trial is a part of India's routine air defence exercise, this success only adds another feather in the cap of Indian Defense shield. Akash missile uses state-of-art integral ram jet rocket propulsion system, while the onboard digital autopilot ensures stability and control. It achieves high kill probability of maneuvering targets and achieves speed of upto 600m/s. The missile has number of safety and abort features ensuring its safe handling and operations.

Akash Missile gets guided with the use of 'Rajendra' radar developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), one of the DRDO laboratory in Bangalore. Rajendra does the surveillance, tracks the target, acquires it and guides the missile towards it.

Akash missile development began during the 1990s under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). Defence experts have compared Akash missile system with the American MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system. We think that the name #-Link-Snipped-# goes very well in India. The nation surely feels proud today.
