Aakash II Tablet Specs Revealed. Arrives In April At Price Same As Original Aakash

#-Link-Snipped-# - the world's <del>cheapest</del> most economical tablet (Price ~$60) has been selling in India like a hot cake for the past few weeks. Indians adopted the tablet at the rate of about 100,000 per day. The tablet designed by #-Link-Snipped-# and manufactured by #-Link-Snipped-# has been in the news for #-Link-Snipped-# #-Link-Snipped-#. Now that the brand 'Aakash' has been established, Indian Government and Datawind are ready to launch Aakash II; the next upgraded version of Aakash tablet. Mr. Kapil Sibal #-Link-Snipped-# the arrival of Aakash tablet during the question hour in the Indian Parliament. The original manufacturer of Aakash, London based Datawind is expected to supply over 100,000 Aakash II tablets with longer lasting battery and a better screen.

The new Aakash tablet will offer Cortex A8 processor which operates at 700 MHz, 3200 mAh battery which is promised to provide about 3 hours of usage and a capacitive touch screen. The problems discovered with original Aakash's screen have been addressed in this version and more focus has been put on improving the overall speed of the tablet. The ministry wants to target the students in higher technical institutions to get feedback on overall usability of the tablet and performance. The price of the new Aakash tablet won't be higher than the original Aakash.

We do not have information about the Android firmware that will ship with this tablet. But we'd believe that it'd still offer Android 2.3. We'd of course keep following the developments on the Aakash front. In the mean time, do share your thoughts about Aakash II and your expectations from it.
