CATL Launches Salt Powered Batteries

Chinese company CATL has launched the first generation of Sodium-ion batteries for EVs. The working principle of Sodium-ion (aka salt-powered) batteries is same as that of tried and tested Li-ion batteries. After several years of research, CATL has developed a hard-carbon material that lets sodium ions move efficiently; resulting into abundant storage and better cycle performance. CATL believes their salt-powered batteries will be ideal in regions with lower, sub-zero temperatures.
