So it looks like the IT majors in India have began to take a serious look at the heart of India, Nagpur. The city known as 'Orange City' has already seen development of TCS campus at MIHAN and it's expected that Infosys too will begin the construction of their campus soon. The latest development however, is even more interesting. According to ToI, MADC has finally been able to convince WIPRO officials to setup their campus on 117 acre land in MIHAN-SEZ.

It's being learned that WIPRO will began work on 23 acre first and expand later on. The slump of 2008 forced all the IT Companies in India to revisit their expansion plan and put upcoming campus development projects on hold.

With all the IT majors coming to Nagpur, I think engineers in the central India can look at Nagpur as the new IT hub. Persistent Systems Limited, is already operational in Nagpur for close to a decade now.

The last time I checked, Wipro had purchased the land, but due to economic turnmoil in USA, there was no word about starting up of operations in Nagpur.
Now, it looks like MADC took a chance during Wirpo chairman Azim Premji's visit to the city in March, when he attended a convocation at Institute of Management Technology (IMT). He was taken around Mihan also. That helped, and it was followed by visits of two senior officials. Now, the company has in-principal decided to go ahead with the work in 2-3 months. Superb! ☕
