why engine cylinders are in cylinderical shape?

    Turning, boring and polishing cylinders (pistons and cylinders) easy on conventional machines. Also being symmetric wear is more uniformly distributed. Axial alignment is automatic for cylinders.

    cylindrical shapes are ideal because they have better capacity to resist internal pressure. They don't deform under pressure when subjected to radial forces by the fluid. Moreover, there is no shear component while in all other shapes you'll have a shear force which will tend to deform the shape.

    Cylindrical shape is with maximum volume at minimum surface area resulting minimum friction.
