WhatsApp Video Calling Could Be A Reality Soon - Feature Under Testing
The beast of all instant messaging apps, with user base almost as large as its parent company Facebook, and growing, WhatsApp has again found itself in rumours. According to some of the reports leaked online, WhatsApp is internally testing a video chat feature/ There is however no official information yet from WhatsApp as to when exactly this feature will go live.
WhatsApp has already introduced, a voice call feature in recent past and though greeted excitedly by users on introduction, it faded out receiving lukewarm response at least in countries as India.
With this new feature you can make future calls on WhatsApp not only by aid of voice but also via a video chat, as currently enabled by FaceTime or Skype. One can mute and switch between the rear and front cameras both, according to a <a href="https://www.macerkopf.de/2015/12/21/whatsapp-fotos-videochat-tabs-arbeit/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WhatsApp: Fotos zeigen Videochat, Tabs in Arbeit › Macerkopf</a> which was first to report testing of the feature.
With over a 900 million users and growing, introduction of novel features for the app seems more of a necessity in order to compete and evolve in the ever changing business market. However making this feature work optimally on slower networks of mobile internet, especially in regions as India and other developing countries, can be a real challenge to overcome.
Whatâs more, the developers are also reported to be working on a new design where the green color of the app is to increasingly become the focus. Testing is going on about making possible the function of opening multiple âtabsâ, a feature similar to when you simultaneously open multiple websites on your browser (chrome, Firefox etc). Multiple chat tabs can be placed next to each other so that you can quickly change between individual chats and do not always have to return to the chat list to switch.
The feature is currently being tested for WhatsApp version 2.12.16.2 iOS platform in closed beta format and nothing can be said in surety if the company will initially release the feature for iOS or android users.
New updates from the app in recent past allow Android users to create a private backup of chat history, voice messages, photos etc in Google drive and use âstarred messagesâ to function as sort of bookmark of conversations, with rich preview feature and availability in Bengali and Urdu languages.
The feature is sure to contend with rivals such as Skype given its massive user base however myriad other factors could as well play their role in determining its success or failure.
