UCWeb Browser and Facebook India Tie Up to Push Notifications
UCWeb and Facebook India have partnered to bring push notifications from Facebook directly to the browser. This is the first time that Facebook has partnered with a mobile web browser to offer push notifications - without the users having to download and install a new add-on. Once the user turns on the notifications feature inside UCWeb browser, users will receive notification and alerts from Facebook even when it's closed. Why UCWeb? You may ask. Well, partnership with Alibaba owned UCWeb can actually help Facebook attract lot more users in India.
India's currently the second largest market for Facebook outside of the US. The mobile explosion in India is all set to make India the largest market for Facebook, even bigger than the USA, and Facebook knows that they need to ensure that they continue to dominate the mobile space. UCWeb continues to be the top mobile browser in India with little over 40% share of the entire market. Facebook thinks that it will be able to reach out to a lot more existing users and also attract new users to its social network.
Facebook's already partnered with leading telecom network providers in India (Airtel, for example), to allow free access to Facebook. Facebook Zero is a text only version of FB that's available with few of the mobile network service providers in India. We'd like to hear from the current users of UCWeb about this move. Do let us know when this feature gets enabled on your browsers. Do you plan to enable FB notifications within UCWeb? We're all ears!
