Textie: Beginning of Free Text message for iPhone users

Globally, SMS messaging aka “TEXT” becomes an important part of our life.

However, If you are in U.S. doing text is basically a charity program. The beneficiaries are the wireless carriers, and the benefactors are you, me, and any other mobile user who willingly agrees to pay approximately 10 cents per text. Do you think... 10 cents every time? For each text? Is it worth really? Same time, can we avoid doing text messages as well?

If you are an iPhone user and seems to text certain people a whole lot, and these people also use iPhone, get #-Link-Snipped-#, have them get Textie, and see if you can't scale back your SMS plan.

Textie on iPhone

The iPhone application Textie presents an alternate route for text messages. It lets you send and receive unlimited messages through your cell phone number, it pops up as a push alert when messages arrive on your phone, and it doesn't cost a cent over and above your normal iPhone data plan.

For using Textie all you need to do is download and install Textie for free (if you are not very choosey you can live with an advertisement version) or you can upgrade to a no-advertisement version for $2. Textie’s interface looks very similar to the iPhone's native SMS screen. You can easily figure out how to use it. It connects with your contacts list, so all you need to do to select a recipient is start typing a name, then choose which associated phone number or email address you want to send it to (yes, Textie will also send messages to email inboxes). However, if recipient is outside the U.S., Textie recommends you stick to email.

Reply of any e-mail or Text send by Textie will come to Textie application inbox only.

Shortcoming:

1.       This application support for iPhone user only.

2.       Message to a T-Mobile user may get delayed or lost entirely. A list of U.S. carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, US Cellular, Metro, PCS, Qwest, and Virgin Mobile) that are happy with Textie can be found on #-Link-Snipped-#.

3.       The messages for Non-Textie user; both send and receive are  still count against their SMS plan.

Bottom Line - Textie is an application that does the best it can do to work around a senseless system. We must say that it’s just a beginning of new era which will allow Mobile users to do texting for free.
