---- Graphite flakes usage as lubricant in cast iron machining is indeed a new info for me . Thank youViswanathan CSolid lubricant is used to reduce Friction in places where the temperature is too high, that a liquid lubricant can loose its properties.
Generally used solid lubricants/Dry lubricants are graphite,Molybdenum disulfide, Hexagonal Boron nitride, Tungsten disulfide.
They have layered structures, Heat bearing capabilities, shock absorbing capabilities, etc.,
Graphite flakes in Cast Iron acts as a lubricants and so lubricants are not used while machining cast iron.Used in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_compressor" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Air Compressor</a>, food industry, railway track joints, open gear, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_bearing" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ball Bearing</a>, machine-shop works, etc.
Molybdenum disulfide and Hexagonal Boron nitride are used in space.
