SMART SAFETY SYSTEM

Project Abstract / Summary : In India the number of road accidents are increasing exponentially every year. The total number of road accidents that occurred in India during 2014 is 4,50,898 causing 1,41,526 deaths. According to a report out of these deaths 46% of the people could have been saved if they were given timely medical care. We realized that in India the reaction time for providing medical care after the accidents is too high and there is a need of an efficient mechanism which can considerably reduce the reaction time. We can decrease the number of deaths in these accidents by providing medical facilities as early as possible immediately after the accident. The aim of our research is to develop a system which is efficient enough in providing timely medical care to the accident victims. This device when installed in every vehicle and induced into a working system can save the precious lives of thousands of people. We have used impact detecting sensors, GPS receiver and GSM module for developing the device. Our main concept is that when an accident occurs the impact detecting sensors will detect the impact of the accident and if it is more than the permissible limit then the GPS receiver of the device will activated thus we will have the exact geographical coordinates of the place where the accident took place and finally these coordinates can be sent to the data center using the GSM module which is in our device. We will have a data center which will collect the coordinates of the place where the accident took place. The data center will be equipped with a supercomputer which will receiver messages containing coordinates from the device installed in the vehicle. And then after processing the coordinates the data center will send a message containing the geographical coordinates to the police station and the hospital which are nearby to the place where accident happened. This whole process will be mechanized and will be completed within a few seconds. As soon as the hospital receives the message they will send an ambulance to the location where accident happened and thus we can provide medical care within minutes after the accident and hence save precious lives of people.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : India is experiencing ever rising crashes and fatalities in recent years. With increase in motorized traffic on roads the number of crashes is in the increasing trend in India. More than 1.4 lakh people are killed in about 5 lakh accidents in the country. Even though the Government of India has invested a significant amount of fund for road safety purposes but we are losing 3% of our GDP each year in road traffic crashes. Safety records of Highways are alarming with very high fatal and severe injury crashes involving a disproportionate number of vulnerable road users. We realized that in India the reaction time for providing medical care after the accidents is too high and there is a need of an efficient mechanism which can considerably reduce the reaction time. We can considerably decrease the number of deaths in these accidents by providing medical facilities as early as possible immediately after the accident in the golden hour. According to a survey, in India we can save 46% of the total lives lost in road accidents by simply proving them with medical care at the right time and as early as possible. Medically the 1st hour after the accident is very crucial to the accident victim and we call the golden hour. The main motivation behind developing this device was to save thousands of precious lives that are lost in road accidents every year simply my installing this device in every motorized vehicle. We strongly believe that our project can be extremely useful in saving thousands of lives.

Project Highlights : Our project should win the competition simply because we believe that our device when installed in every vehicle can save thousands of precious lives. Our project is all about using technology to save lives. We also believe that our project is economically feasible and thus can be implemented immediately. Because of the impact that it will have on human lives we believe that our project should win this contest.
